Fatherhood and Mentoring Take the Field at NFL Players Association Collegiate Bowl
College All-Star Game to Spotlight Importance of Father and Other Adult Involvement in Children's Lives

WASHINGTON, Jan. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse (NRFC), funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families, Office of Family Assistance, will team up with Fathers Incorporated, Mentoring USA, and Healthy Relationships California at the National Football League (NFL) Players Association Collegiate Bowl on Saturday, January 18, to offer practical resources that can help fathers and other adults take advantage of opportunities to influence the direction children take in life. The 2014 Collegiate Bowl will take place at StubHub Center on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson, California. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. PST. "Studies show that young people whose fathers and other caring adults are actively involved in their lives have greater self-confidence, perform better in school, and are better able to avoid risky behaviors," says Kenneth Braswell, NRFC director. "A strong father-child bond is based on shared interests and experiences. The Collegiate Bowl is an excellent environment for children and dads to spend time together and for families to get tips and information on parenting, mentoring, health and wellness, and everyday activities that promote responsible fatherhood and commitment to children's well-being."

The NFL Players Association Collegiate Bowl showcases the talent of draft-eligible seniors who get first-hand insight from professional football players and coaching legends on what it takes to win on and off the field. Head coach Dick Vermeil will return to defend the National Team's 2012 and 2013 titles. He will face first-time American Team head coach Dennis Green. The seniors competing are from Bowl Championship Series schools as well as smaller universities and historically black colleges and universities.

NRFC explores, organizes, and disseminates information designed to enhance the capacity of fathers to be financially and emotionally invested in the lives of their children and of families by being loving and involved parents. NRFC equips practitioners and other stakeholders with comprehensive information to provide effective support and services to ensure successful fatherhood outcomes. NRFC also uses relevant research and data to engage the public and increase understanding about responsible fatherhood and the importance of father presence in the lives of children of all ages.
